The key work of the Policy Team is to deliver District, Strategy and Area Plans, as well as the associated action plans, plan changes and variations. This work influences the type and location of housing; the shape and feel of neighborhoods; the efficiency and sustainability of transport options; the well-being of communities; the vitality of rural areas, businesses, and centers; the integrity of the natural environment; and the resilience of Selwyn's infrastructure.
The role
As a member of the Policy Team, you will be the administrator of various statutory processes under the Resource Management Act and the Local Government Act. This includes:
- Overseeing contract procurement and management for a range of multi-discipline external providers.
- Being the key Council link between our statutory processes and external stakeholders.
- Examining existing processes and actively seeking out improvements.
- Facilitating the flow and recording of information in various non-statutory and statutory processes.

About you
To be successful in this role, a minimum of four to five years experience in a secretarial or administrative role with at least two of those years within a Resource Management Act administrative role. You will ensure our administrative processes fulfill our statutory requirements under the Resource Management Act and the Local Government Act. This means taking on the responsibility for delivering administrative requirements which carry significant legal and reputational risk. These processes include (not limited to) the District Plan Review, Private Plan Changes, Notices of Requirements, Council Plan Changes, and Spatial and Area Planning.
You will have an outstanding ability to communicate clearly and appropriately with a range of audiences and adapt your style accordingly. You will require an exceptional level of organisational and prioritisation skills. You will have a high level of accuracy and work within statutory processes, supporting the Section's Team Leaders and Head of Strategy and Policy where required with administrative matters.
